Here it is, that most elusive of TMCA goals, a new venue. Thanks to Ms. Chris Makin at Laguna Harbor, TMCA was invited to come for an overnight stay at their new dock.

We Departed Clear Lake marker #2 at 0900 hrs, Saturday, Feb. 9. and faced with Easterly wind it was a struggle to get to the Houston Ship channel. We head down the HSC and into East Bay at  HSC 50. Almost All of the Fleet were Full sail and No Engine until we arrived at Bolivar Roads. It was grand sailing in the Light 6-8 kts breeze. It was close hauled sailing at its best.

Just a short way up the ICW at Port Bolivar, we turned into Laguna Harbor. The power boats Sea Cruise and Tramp were in ahead of every one and assisted the sailboats tying up.

There is some shoaling at the entrance to the Harbor.  A Goode Ketch cut the corner a little short and went aground slightly. They were able to get off and find a path in before the rest arrived. Stellar of Course discovered a stick slightly to the right of the entrance. Ron decided to leave it on the Starboard side and made it in handily.  The shallow draft boats Sirena and Silhouette had no problems. They rafted up by Stellar of Course.

Coolair has a Fishfinder/Depth sounder so Remedy elected to Follow and Listen to his soundings.

All was fine until he called out 5.0 feet. Coolair had cut the turn short and got stuck before he reached the stick.

Remedy swung the turn wider went full speed forward and leaving Coolair about 5 Yards to starboard blasted through the shoal. We bumped twice but moved on into the harbor. Remedy's depth was reading 5.4 at the hump and the extra power carried our 6.0 draft through. For Wind-Swept and Sea Quest it was no problem. Finally, CoolAir managed  to get off and make it in to the Harbor.  Freedom's Wing was last to arrive and by then the excitement was all over.  The Photo above was  Taken from the top of Showcase center; it show us all in the harbor first arrivals closest to the Camera.

Fort Travis is about 2 miles away, a bit far to walk, but well worth seeing. Most in the fleet brought along bicycles to take the tour. Along the way we pass close the The Bolivar Light and through some of the finest wetlands on the Texas Coast.
